when cutting binding and purfling rabbets, the router needs to be able to move vertically up and down following the contour of the domed top and back. the gore / gilet book describes achieving this by mounting the router on a flexible parallelogram as shown here. unfortunatley the plastic hinges shown, while avoiding play found in traditional pinned hinges, have a lot of twisting flex.
